Juvelook, Rejuran, skin boosters, botulinum toxin and fillers are injectable treatments with similar aftercare reactions
Bruising and swelling are the two most common concerns after injections. Most are expected and resolve within days, but some signs require immediate contact with a doctor. This article distinguishes the two to help you understand reactions after returning home.
Expected reactions
- Small red marks at injection sites that fade within 1–2 days
- Swelling at injection sites, usually resolving within 2–3 days; eye and lip areas may take longer
- Small bruises that gradually fade within a week
- Mild soreness or tightness that improves within days
- Small bumps after skin-booster injections that flatten within 1–2 days
Bruising may be more noticeable in thin or redness-prone skin. This reflects individual differences and does not necessarily indicate a problem.
Recommended care during the first 48 hours
Place a clean towel between the ice pack and skin for about 10 minutes at a time. Do not massage, rub or press firmly on injection sites.
Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas and steam rooms for 48 hours. Do not use hot compresses.
Showering, light exercise and makeup can begin the following day. Slightly elevating your head during sleep may help swelling.
Helping bruises fade
After 48 hours, warm compresses may help bruises resolve. Where possible, avoid medications such as aspirin that affect clotting during this period. If you take prescribed medication, consult your doctor first and do not stop it yourself. Use gentle concealer if needed and remove makeup carefully.
Worsening pain; white, purple or mottled skin around the injection area; swelling that fails to improve after a week or worsens; redness and warmth with fever; changes in vision or a significant headache. Send photos on WeChat immediately with the treatment and time so the doctor can advise.
Follow-up after returning home
We connect on WeChat for follow-up before you leave. Send photos of anything you are unsure about and state the number of days since injection. Do not wait until it looks serious. Follow-up visits can also be arranged on WeChat.
